Theories of a Ghost Nation, developed by Chris House.

Ghosts have existed as a part of Society as far back as pagan times, but there have also been a number of changes to the belief system integrated into local communities. Today, the belief is more of a science, those who study ghosts study them for the science to answer their own questions in their own mind. In today's Society, it can be seen as not appropriate to 'believe' without proof. The proof is what all paranormal organisations are striving to achieve, although there have only been small advances in theory and practice.

UKSPI is no different, the research carried out by UKSPI is not advanced enough to find the proof that we all seek to find.UKSPI has been carrying out over 50 research projects, and is no closer to finding the truth than an organisation just starting out. UKSPI is developing methods and theories as apposed to discovering proof, UKSPI has achieved small advances in these methods.

So why is it that UKSPI doesn't just give up? Simply because a paranormal investigation is like shooting an arrow in the dark. At times, you might hit somthing, and other times your 'arrow' lands on the floor, and you hit nothing. Looking for a ghost is simply a sit and wait affair. A paranormal investigation is periods of waiting, buffered by experiments. Paranormal Investigation is not as glamerous as it has been portrayed as in the media. Science needs comittment, method and dedication, something which all of those in UKSPI share.

This would explain the reason for groups such as UKSPI having a large turnover rate of members. Those who believe searching for ghosts, is like the programs they watch on TV. Unfortunately, the real truth is, the TV programs sit and wait for long periods, but it is cut out of the final show. This cannot be done on real paranormal investigations.

So that's enough about holding an investigation, what you really want to know is the many different types of ghosts, and how to distinguish them. For the purpose of this section, I will list them from the most friendly, to the worst.

The UKSPI Ghost Classification System.
U1. Residual Energy - This is not so much a ghost, but a rememberance. It is believed that only Spiritualist Mediums can pick up Residual Energy, and it is usually an event, say a marrage, or the death by an illness.
U2. 'Sensed' Spirits - These are spirits that are essentially 'sensed' by someone, most usually a medium. The spirit is apparently, picked up in the mind of the reciever.
U3. Orbs - Orbs are believed to be the first manifestation of the spirit. They are small, round, visual lights, which are usually picked up by Digital Cameras, but are also rarely picked up on 35mm cameras.
U4. Electro-Magnetic Fluctuation - An EMF meter is used for this detection. It is believed that ghosts draw in energy from the surrounding atmosphere. It is believed that this energy is picked up by the EMF meter, and thus, detects a ghost.
U5. Electromagnetic Voice Phemonenon (EVP) - It is believe that a spirit will talk in a lower frequency than the human ears can hear, but this voice is converted by a dictaphone, into a wavelength humans can hear. This means that an EVP is produced.
U6. Possession - This is when a spirit apparently possess a person, this again is usually a Spiritualist Medium. This spirit can be usually asked questions, and the medium will take on the personality of the spirit.
U7. Recorded Spirit - This is based on the Stone Wall Theory. It is believed that stone has certain properties which mean that an imprint can be made. This works on the same principle as a VCR. It is believed that when the conditions are right, the spirit will perform in the same way every time. One example might be, putting a book back in a shelf in a library.
U8. Spirit Aparition - An aparition is the process of seeing a ghost. The ghost is shown if full view, and it can be seen by the viewer. It may be just standing there, or it may be performing an action.
U9. Poltergeist - Poltergeist is a german word, which is translated into 'Noisy Ghost.' A Poltergeist is know for moving objects, and creating bangs and crashes. Poltergeists are even known to physicially hurt a person by scratching them. It can be a good or a bad phenomenon.
U10. Elemental/Diva - A Diva is essentally a Poltergeist, but is pure evil. It is thought that a Diva has never lived as a person, but is created out of negitive energy, and then developes an intelligence. It is know for hurting living people by throwing things, or scratching them.

It has to be noted, that the above classification system is based on theory, experience, logic and information given by mediums. The classification system is not a guarentee. You are free to use the classification system, but you must credit it to UKSPI and use the name, 'The UKSPI Ghost Classification System.'

Ghost hunting will never be an exact science, but parapsychologists today are seen a pioneers in the field of research. All parapsychologists develop their principles from modern Philosophy. Philosophy is simple asking questions, and not taking the most obvious answer. At the moment in time, there is no answer to any questions we ask about Ghosts. Please go to our 'Ghost Philosophy' section for more information.
